About SCORP

Human rights and peace are essential foundations of healthcare and society that every medical student should understand as they ensure dignity, equality, and justice for all individuals.

SCORP works to promote awareness of human rights issues and the importance of peace in creating safe and equitable health systems.

It encourages students to engage in discussions and activities that address discrimination, social injustice, and barriers that affect access to healthcare.

Through education and collaboration, SCORP empowers students to stand for fairness and compassion in their communities, support vulnerable populations, and help build a healthier and more informed society

Vision

SCORP envisions a healthcare system where health outcomes are not determined by geographic location, socioeconomic status, legal documentation, or population group. A system where healthcare professionals are not only clinically competent, but also aware of their ethical and legal responsibilities in protecting human rights and ensuring equitable care for all patients.

Mission

SCORP focuses on addressing inequality in health by moving beyond immediate humanitarian assistance to the structural and systemic factors that create and sustain vulnerability. It emphasizes that responding only to consequences is insufficient when the underlying causes remain unchanged. Its mission is to work toward reducing inequality, injustice, and barriers to health through a rights based and systems oriented approach.

Focus Areas

1. Health Equity

Patients presenting with identical conditions may experience significantly different clinical pathways and outcomes depending on context. SCORP works to explore the structural determinants behind these disparities, including access to services, resource distribution, and systemic bias, and to equip future healthcare professionals with the knowledge to recognize and address them.

2. Gender Based Violence and Gender Equity

Gender based violence often remains unspoken in clinical encounters and may present indirectly through physical injuries, chronic unexplained symptoms, or psychological distress. SCORP focuses on building awareness of these presentations and strengthening both clinical recognition and appropriate legal and ethical response within healthcare settings.

Project

Together Against Stigma

Stigma in healthcare can lead to diagnostic overshadowing, where pre existing labels influence clinical judgment and result in incomplete assessment or missed diagnoses. SCORP works to address stigma in medical practice by promoting awareness of cognitive bias and encouraging comprehensive, patient centered evaluation.
